Man Pulled from Burning Home in Luzerne County Has Died

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The man who was pulled from his burning home in Luzerne County has died, according to firefighters.

The fire started around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday along Suscon Road near Pittston.

Crews tell us the victim, Robert Slezak, 52, who was confined to a wheelchair, suffered severe burns.

Before firefighters arrived, several people tried to rescue the man including a neighbor who was driving by.

"I notice some smoke in the air and when I checked it out, I saw some flames shooting alongside inside the window, I believe the bedroom. We tried to get in, myself and other person tried to get in, but we could not get in," said neighbor Gane Garron.

A fire marshal is looking for the cause of the fire.
