RICE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A house up for sale went up in flames in Rice Township early Tuesday morning.

According to fire officials, no one was inside at the time.

Firefighters were called to the place on Church Road and arrived within minutes because they were nearby for a crash.

When they did arrive, fire officials said they found a live electrical wire sparking and jumping on the yard.

They said it took about 20 minutes for crews to get that under control.

Flames were shooting through windows and the roof of the home, part of which collapsed.

Crews from all over Luzerne County's Mountaintop area and beyond were there to help.

A neighbor told Newswatch 16 around 1 a.m., he was outside with his dogs when he noticed a light on inside the house. He said it was unusual because no one lives in the house.

Then he said a vehicle left the property and a while later, he noticed the place was on fire.

State police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
