30 Cattle Killed in Union County Crash

HARTLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A rollover crash in Union County killed 30 cattle.

The wreck happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday along Route 45 in Hartley Township near the Centre County line.

State police say a tractor-trailer hauling the cattle hit a guide rail, slid down an embankment, and struck several trees.

The driver was not badly hurt.

Troopers say local farmers donated their livestock trailers to transport the remaining cattle.

Route 45 was closed until Wednesday morning. The road was closed for a few hours again on Wednesday afternoon while crews removed the vehicle.
