MOOSIC, Pa. -- A lot has changed at the ballpark in the 30 years that minor league baseball has been in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area but one thing remains the same.

Johnny Kundla and his grandmother Roberta, are always here to greet fans as they walk in a game.

Born with cerebral palsy, Johnny faces challenges every day but his disability will never keep him from coming to PNC Field.

"John is a very favorite fan of the RailRiders, we go to all the games, we are season ticket holders and the last couple of years, we haven't missed a game," said Roberta Kundla of Scranton., "No, no he hasn't (missed an opening day) and we are here this year."

But getting here wasn't easy.

In January, Johnny and Roberta were involved in a violent crash along Keyser Avenue in Scranton.

Johnny's special handicap accessible van was totaled.

It's taken months for them to recover from their injuries. Working every day to make sure they would make it to opening day.

"That means a whole lot, and he's my joy, we go all over together, and everybody here is so kind to us, everybody is," said Roberta.

And as the boys of summer returned home on Thursday night, so did Johnny. Ready to do his part in welcoming baseball back to northeast PA.

The RailRiders are home all weekend and rain or shine, Johnny will be at the front gates greeting fans.
