DUNMORE, Pa. -- The Dunmore Lady Bucks got a rowdy sendoff Thursday morning, complete with fire trucks and a cheering student body.

The Lady Bucks basketball team is headed to the 3A championship game in Hershey Thursday evening, after a win over Trinity Monday night in Pottsville.

"If you're not anxious, there's probably something wrong with you. You got to be a little nervous, but it's all good. It's a good feeling," said Dunmore senior forward Victoria Toomey.

Dunmore, a perfect 29-0 on the season, will take on Delone Catholic in the 3A state championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday.

A win would be historic and give the Lady Bucks their first state championship in school history.

"The community is just unbelievable," said Coach Ben O'Brien. "They've been so supportive of us. We're going to try and go down there today and bring a state championship game to Dunmore."

Fans and fellow students echo that statement, adding that some championship hardware would mean everything to the "nine-square miles" community.

"If you go to a game, you'll see 1,200 people from Dunmore and there may be 80, 70 from the other schools because there's no sense of community," said resident John Coar.

T-shirts with the famous Hershey kiss were on sale in hopes that in a few hours, they'd become a collector's item with a Bucks win.

Leading up to the state championship game, Dunmore sold 900 tickets and they're packing four buses full of students to go to Hershey.

"I know they've put in so much hard work and dedication. Seeing them be able to do this and be able to play for the state championship game, it's really cool," said senior Allison Mayer.

The Lady Bucks have played in two state championships before, in 1994 and 2011, but were not victorious. Dunmore as a school hasn't won any state championships since the football team won in 1989.
