LOWER TOWAMENSING TOWNSHIP, Pa. --State police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Carbon County.
Troopers in Lehighton said Kyle Gruver, 27, from Fleetwood beat stabbed and shot his ex-girlfriend Megan Leland, 26, from Palmerton.
Troopers said it happened sometime Thursday in a home off the 4,400 block of Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township.
Beth Fisher lives a few doors down.
“It's totally tragic. I just feel awful for the families. We do not have any of this happen around here. This is just shocking,” Fisher said.
Troopers said Gruver brutally killed Leland because he was upset over their recent breakup.
“Nobody should have to go out that way,” Fisher said.
“Everything can be resolved in one way or another. It's not worth taking somebody's life,” Neighbor Marnie Kuhns said.
Newswatch 16 talked to some neighbors who didn't want to go on camera but they said that Leland was an incredibly sweet person. Other neighbors just couldn't believe that this would happen.
“We live here because we want to live in a small, quiet community. You don't expect things like that to happen in a small community where everybody knows everybody and everybody watches out for everybody,” Kuhns said.
“Very quiet. Most people stick to themselves. It's safe... I just hope and pray that the families are okay,” Fisher said.
Troopers said they conducted interviews and they continue to investigate the incident.
