Deadly Crash Closes Stretch of North Keyser Avenue in Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. — A busy stretch of road in Scranton was closed by a crash Friday morning.

SCRANTON, Pa. -- A crash in Scranton Friday morning claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and shut down a busy road for much of the day.

Police say the victim was likely killed instantly.

It was quiet on North Keyser Avenue as police started investigating the deadly wreck, but workers say it was not when they heard the impact just before noon.

"It literally just sounded like a bomb," said Brennah Riley at the Purple Pepper Deli.  "There was almost like dust everywhere, like just exploded. It was so scary."

The green pickup truck was headed towards Taylor when it collided with the tractor-trailer going the opposite direction. Police say witnesses saw the pickup cross the double yellow line and into the tractor-trailer's path.

The pickup's driver, Casey Williams, 21, from Scranton, was killed.

"We look over, and the little green truck, you know, they had to cover it up because of the man inside. So, so sad," Riley added.

The tractor-trailer driver was hurt. He likely suffered a broken wrist but is expected to be OK. Police kept North Keyser avenue shut down as they began investigating the crash, to try to figure out how fast the pickup and truck were going and what may have led to the impact.
