WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A homicide suspect surrendered peacefully after police in heavy gear threw two flash grenades into the house in Wilkes-Barre Township where he was hiding.

A large police presence surrounded a home at East Northampton and North Walnut Streets Friday afternoon.

Authorities have been looking for Kyon McDonald, 34, of Plymouth, after a deadly shooting outside a bar in Plymouth.

State police say McDonald shot Tierees Owens several times outside a bar in Plymouth early Thursday morning. Owens later died.

"I just wanted to get out of there," said neighbor Pat Reimer. "I was scared because normally up here it's very quiet and nothing like this has ever happened in the 13 years that I've lived here."

Reimer lives in the building where McDonald was found and says he was not her neighbor.

"He was hiding there. Because I know the people that live in the first-floor apartment and he must have been hiding there."

State and local police had three roads in the township blocked off since about 11 a.m. to keep people safe and away from the scene.

"Police are taking it real seriously," said neighbor Mike Glasson. "You can see by how many responded to the situation."

Around 2:30 p.m., troopers threw two flash grenades and told McDonald they had a warrant for his arrest. Minutes later he surrendered.

There's no word yet on when McDonald will be arraigned on his homicide charge but neighbors are happy this area is back to normal.
