HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police say a wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash on Interstate 81.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-81 just south of Wilkes-Barre around 5 p.m. Sunday, backing up traffic for miles in Luzerne County.
Troopers say a man in his 70s was going south in the northbound lanes for about two miles. One vehicle swerved to avoid him, but the wrong-way driver hit another vehicle head on.
The wrong-way driver as well as the driver and a passenger in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital.
State police said the wrong-way driver faces several traffic citations.
The interstate was back open about an hour later.
