NEW ALBANY, Pa. -- A community library in Bradford County is heavily damaged. Flash flooding washed away the New Albany Community Library building Tuesday morning along Route 220.

When it comes to flooding, you always think to get to the highest point. But for Andilee Brown and her family, living on the second floor of the New Albany Library still wasn't safe enough.

"It just started ripping through the house, and it just ripped the house down right around us," Brown recalled.

Neighbors say this is the fourth time the borough of New Albany has flooded in about two weeks. Last week, the library was damaged, but after the latest flooding, the building is unrecognizable.

"We lost quite a few books off our bottom shelf, and we were waiting for the Boy Scouts to come and take our good books out to redo the library. Then this," said library volunteer Cheryl Brown.

The second floor of the library now sits on the ground but is pushed off the road. What's left of the first floor of the library sits across the street, now going into the yard of another home.

"It's sad to see it like this. It's gone. I don't even know what they're going to do from here. It's really bad," said Brown.

The family who lives above the library is safe and will be staying with family for now, but this is just the start of the destruction. Other homes in this part of Bradford County are flooded and roads are impassable.

"It's been crazy, spent a couple hours navigating trying to get back. We finally got back," Aaron Smith said.

Water isn't only flowing across part of Route 220, but the blacktop underneath is starting to wash away, too, so some just had to watch and wait to see what kind of damage is waiting for them back home.

"I got a couple kids at home. They're hanging out checking on the basement. They sent me pictures, it was pretty ugly so I have to tend to that when I do get home," Smith said.

Many roads in Bradford County were blocked including Route 220 in the Monroeton area. Some of the roads in the county are still closed.
