HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Police in Luzerne County charged a driver in a deadly hit and run. The charges come four months after the crash.

52-year-old Lisa Yurkin of the Nanticoke area turned herself into police hours after the crash in February.

According to court papers, Yurkin initially thought she hit a deer because it was raining and dark. Now, months later, DNA evidence found on her car tied her to that deadly hit and run.

Yurkin didn’t answer any of our questions as she walked out of court in Hanover Township.

She was charged with one count of accidents involving death or injury.

Just a few hundred yards away from court, a cross and flowers mark the spot where police say she hit and killed 36-year-old Jason Filip on the San Souci Parkway.

Police said she didn’t stop or call authorities immediately after the crash.

Later, police tested DNA evidence found on her car that matched to Filip.

Filip's family was also in court Thursday morning. They were too emotional to say anything.

Yurkin could spend up to three years in prison in connection with the deadly hit and run.

She is free right now on $25,000 unsecured bail.
