EATON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- It has been one year since a deadly shooting at a Weis Markets supermarket in Wyoming County.
A worker killed three employees and then himself inside the store near Tunkhannock.
It's business as usual on Friday outside the store near Tunkhannock, but the events that took place on this day a year ago are still on the minds of many here in the community.
A year may have gone by, but time hasn't erased the memories of what happened at the Weis Markets supermarket near Tunkhannock.
"I go shopping there almost every single morning and when I went by there that morning, it was loaded with cop cars," recalled Jami Day, owner of The Downtown Deli.
The shooting happened just after midnight. An employee at the store shot and killed three of his coworkers --Terry Sterling, 63, Victoria Brong, 25, and Brian Hayes, 47.
The shooter then killed himself.
The people we spoke with say the shooting devastated them so much because they know people that work at this store and it is a place they go daily.
"I couldn't go back for probably five months. I just couldn't make myself walk in there because every time I walked in there, I kept thinking about all of those people," Day said.
"I don't really think anybody wants to block it out or forget about it. I just think it's just a matter of there's not much for us to say," said Angelo Maruzzelli.
After the shooting, the community quickly began to support the store, its employees, and the family members of the victims.
That support is still there even a year later.
"It's like a big family, pretty much, Wyoming County. It's like everybody comes together."
"It was a horrible tragedy that happened here in our town and was really a big tragedy for northeastern Pennslyvania, not just Tunkhannock. It's much bigger than that," Maruzzelli added.
"It's like a big family pretty much, Wyoming county. We all stick together. Everything is fine now. It is a day to pay respect," said Gary Childress.
Employees did not want to speak on camera but a spokesperson from the supermarket sent Newswatch 16 a statement.
"Over the past year, the Tunkhannock community has embraced us and lifted us up. We are truly grateful to them and to our associates who helped us reopen and serve a great community."
The inside of the store was remodeled after the shooting.
It was closed for about a month during that time the company still continued to pay all of its employees.
