SCRANTON, Pa. -- A driver turned himself in to face charges in connection with a crash that killed a special education teacher.
Jacob Bennett from New York state was charged with involuntary manslaughter and other charges. Police say he didn't have a driver's license when he caused the wreck on Interstate 81 at the Lackawanna and Susquehanna County line back in January.
Patricia Pasierb of Jefferson Township was killed. She was on her way to work at Mountain View School District.
"Much of a relief that the families can move forward and hopefully whatever they think needs to be done will be done and justice will be served," said Mountain View Superintendent Karen Voigt.
Voigt said Pasierb will be remembered at the end of this school year.
"We're gonna have some students this year at graduation that are going to be receiving scholarships in Patricia Pasierb's name," Voigt explained. "Her mother is offering one that we're finalizing details, and the faculty and staff here at Mountain View have also collected for a memorial scholarship."
Voigt also says the district is still mourning the loss of their fellow Eagle but are eager to turn the tragedy into something positive.
"She was very passionate about students being educated and her mother knows that this is something that she would really like. That Patricia would have really liked to have student further their education," adds Voigt.
Bennett is free on bail. A date for his preliminary hearing has not been set.
