HAZLETON, Pa. -- It's hard to believe, and even harder to say, but more snow showers moved across the area Monday morning.
The snow started falling around 2 a.m.
Snow started falling early in the morning in Hazleton, and by the time the morning commute hit, a few inches were on the ground.
Carl Wiseman had an early start clearing the sidewalk in front of a building on Broad Street.
"I make money off it. I don't mind it because it's good money for me to make, but other than that," Wiseman said.
Wiseman looks forward to the day, in the not too distant future, when he can drop the snow shovel and return to running heavy equipment.
A lot of people stayed off the snow-covered and slippery roads in Hazleton by choice, but others didn't have a say in the matter. Being on the road is part of their job.
Tina Novotnak has been driving a Hazleton Public Transit bus for the past 14 years. She told me these buses aren't the greatest in the snow. The driver makes the difference.
"If you know how to drive, then you're good. if you don't know how to drive, stay off the roads," Novotnak advised.
Once the snow slowed down a bit, PennDOT and the Hazleton public works department were able to get the roads down to wet and slushy pavement.
Sidewalks were another story.
Humboldt Industrial Supply had a busy winter but if you don't have the winter essentials by now, you're out of luck.
"We're out of the ice melt. We're out of shovels and it's too late to bring that stuff back now," said Tom Hoch.
So the front of Tom Hoch's store is filled with yard rakes and brooms. The weather in which to use those items is still elusive.
A winter weather advisory was issued for several counties.
