MONTROSE -- A March storm is on the move across the area, bringing rain, and ending with snow.

"It's March 2, this sucks. This is terrible. It's not good for business. I'm in sales, and it's hard to get around this time of year when it's like this," said John Sprout of Montrose.

From New Milford at 4 a.m. to Montrose after sunrise, much of the northern tier got walloped by the winter weather early on. Some businesses including The Ave Diner planning to turn their lights out earlier than usual.

"To get our people home safe, there's no reason to be out in this weather," said owner Brian Welch.  "I want spring to come this weather has been horrible for business."

But not for Jeff Smith.

"Made a lot of money so far on this, so it's kind of a win-win."

The Montrose Area High School freshman is using his snow day as a payday shoveling sidewalks.

Despite all of the shoveling and plowing by crews, the morning commute was still a dicey drive.

"I have four-wheel drive. I live at the bottom of the hill. It was tricky coming up here, fish-tailing, miserable stuff," Sprout said.
