COAL TOWNSHIP -- A mother and her newborn baby were killed in a crash Tuesday in Northumberland County.

The Northumberland County coroner identified the victims as Keyla De Los Santos, 27, of Mahanoy City, and her baby, Jonathon.

Friends and family are remembering Keyla De Los Santos and her newborn son Jonathan. The two died in a crash on Route 54 in Northumberland County Tuesday evening.

Jonathan was only 29 days old.

The family recently moved to Mahanoy city From New York and very few people knew them.

"No, I didn't hear nothing about that. I'm so sorry to hear that," said Sandi Kufro.

Police tell Newswatch 16 the family was in a minivan when they began to slide on snow, crossed into the center lane into oncoming traffic, and then hit a tractor-trailer.

Two others in the car were taken to the hospital. A family friend tells Newswatch 16 those people are De Los Santo's husband and her son.

Loved ones are posting tributes to the young mother and her son.

A former coworker writes,"Keyla was a truly sweet and hardworking young lady full of life. It's not a time at KFC that we called on her and she wasn't there."

Another friend writes, "sending my condolence to your family and friends! And praying for your oldest and husband."

Though many people in Mahanoy City did not know the family, they still are devastated by the tragic loss and hope the other family members still recovering pull through.

"It's very shocking. especially for a tiny little baby like that, too. I mean the woman, the mother, too. You know, it's a shame. I feel really sorry for them," Kufro added.

Coal Township police say they are still investigating the crash.
