WILKES-BARRE -- A woman was sentenced Tuesday for an attack on a 12-year-old girl.
Marlena Uravage of Nanticoke was sentenced to four to 20 months behind bars.
“I’m just glad. Today (my daughter) said, ‘I want it to be over,’ and now it’s over. I’m just happy for that,” the victim’s mother, Chere Fuller said as she started tearing up.
Uravage had nothing to say to Newswatch 16 after she was sentenced for the assault.
She did not have much to say during the sentencing either.
Judge David Lupas had to ask her two times for a sincere apology. In court, Uravage said, “I’m sorry for pushing you in front of that store… I don’t know, what?”
“She was still hostile. She was still argumentative. The judge had to prompt her to say that she was sorry to my daughter. There is just something wrong with her that she is absolutely not remorseful whatsoever,” Fuller said.
Uravage pleaded guilty after surveillance video caught the attack in a Wilkes-Barre convenience store parking lot on camera.
Fuller said her daughter has not been the same since that day in May.
“Everywhere we go, it’s changed her life. She has to always look over her shoulder, always be in fear, that someone else is going to hurt her,” Fuller said with tears in her eyes.
“She has a major rage problem. She couldn’t even control herself in front of the judge and her inability to even acknowledge that there was a victim in the courtroom was something that the judge saw, too,” Assistant District Attorney Angela Sperrazza said.
Uravage was supposed to be sentenced on the assault charge on Friday, but instead, she skipped her day in court.
She was arrested for that and faced the consequences on Tuesday.
“She has an attitude of she is above the law and everything she can do to push things back further with this proceeding, she has,” Fuller said.
In addition to four to 20 months in prison, Uravage will also go through assessments and evaluations for drugs and alcohol, anger management, and mental health.
Uravage is not allowed to contact the victim or her family.
