LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP — One person is dead after what appears to be a deadly shooting in Lycoming County.

State police were called to Poco Farm Road near Williamsport around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The deputy coroner tells Newswatch 16 a man in his 20s is dead. His name will not be released until his family is notified.

According to state police, someone passing by on Poco Farm Road spotted a body on the side of the road. That person called 911. First responders noticed the man had been shot several times and called the police.

Evidence markers on the road note items of interest, possibly bullet casings. State police spent hours at the scene Sunday night, looking for the clues they hope lead them to a killer.

There will be an autopsy. State police have already said the victim was shot several times, and they are calling this a homicide investigation. One of the things police could learn at the autopsy is when the man was killed.

People who posted to a facebook site said they heard gunshots in that area, just outside of Williamsport, Saturday night. It’s not yet known if those shots are connected to the homicide.
