Thousands of Dollars Missing From Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Booster Club

WILKES-BARRE -- A police report was filed Thursday for thousands of dollars that have gone missing from the  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Booster Club.

The members of the club claim that nearly $11,000 is missing from the Booster Clubs checking and trip account.

An investigation is underway.

    Let me guess. Money was missing for several years and only discovered last week when a check bounced. And let me extend another guess….I’ll bet there’s no periodic auditing of the books. No checks and balances. I’ll even bet that only one person is required to sign checks. And that the same person who handles incoming cash makes bank deposits with no one else around. Once again, we have “mom-and-pop” style bookkeeping when a system involving checks and balances, separation of duties and routine audits should be in place. I know that sounds expensive and quite high-end for a small volunteer organization. Honestly, it’s not expensive at all and doesn’t require someone with a CPA. In any event, it’s cheaper than the $11,000 this booster organization lost.

    Most likely it was transferred to Pittsburgh for for lipstick and Mani’s and pedi’s for Cindy Crosby…….
