ASHLEY -- A fire company in Luzerne County suffered a sudden loss this weekend.

Ashley Fire Chief Joe McGlynn passed away Sunday.

Members of the fire department hung black bunting over the station Sunday evening. McGlynn's gear was placed in front of the fire department.

"He was just a great guy. He was well respected around town. He put his heart and soul into the company," said Don Sipple.

McGlynn was more than the fire chief here. He was also a member of the borough council and was a police officer for 35 years before retiring in 2015.

His name will still be a part of the Ashley Fire Department. His two sons also volunteer there.

McGlynn had been with the fire department more than 40 years. He was 63 years old.

Funeral services for Chief McGlynn will be held on Thursday, August 10, at 10 a.m. from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9.
