BLOOMSBURG -- Cars driving down Main Street were greeted by plenty of colorful and clever signs in Bloomsburg.
Groups from different LGBTQ organizations from across the area came out to make their voices heard.

“We have a serious problem in this country with our bigotry and we need to understand that we are a country of a melting pot,” said Dennis Artley of Bloomsburg

Organizers with "Columbia County Indivisible" decided to hold the rally to focus on those who have been neglected and to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community.

Lauren O'Brien recently came out as bisexual and wanted to give hope to others who may have been bullied.

“Just because someone identifies as not straight or not a specific gender it's not something to be afraid of and not something that's wrong,” said Laura O’Brien of Berwick.

The rally took place just days after Randy Stair shot three people then himself inside of a Weis supermarket near Tunkhannock Thursday.

Investigators later found a note saying quote: “I’m a girl who's been trapped in a man's body for two and a half decades, and I need to get the hell out. I don`t belong on this planet, nor have I ever. I need to die, and I’m taking whomever I can down with me.”

Organizers want to make sure people struggling with their identity know someone is caring for them so they won't harm themselves or others.

“We need everyone to know, especially the LGBTQ people to know, we love them all that they are part of community,” Shelley Crawford Columbia County Indivisible.

“I don’t believe it's our place to judge that I think understanding is a bigger opportunity for everybody than judgment,” said Artley.

Organizers plan to hold more rallies in the future to help people who may have been bullied or struggling with coming out.

Everyone needs something to be mad at, to distract them from their own imperfect lives. Why worry about what others do with their lives, when they’re peacefully protesting? Seems like a waste of your limited time on this Earth, no?

  • Pinocchio

Bigot=LBGTQIAEIEIO description of any individual who’s views differ from theirs. Either you agree with them or you’re a bigot.

  • Mike

Gay men account for 2% of the population yet make up over half of all HIV/AIDS cases. Let’s see a float or posterboard of that statistic pushed in a child’s face at this rally.

Society is circling down the toilet.

  • sexual maniacs

Attention all God fearing NORMAL citizens, this too shall pass. Let them do their thing if they must. Their time on Earth is limited like our own. God has a reserved place in Hell for these misfits of society. May they burn for eternity in the Lake O’ Hellfire!

  • antonio elspri

Aren’t these the same groups that have zero tolerance for the President and the voters who elected him?

    • Pinocchio

Haven’t they told you? They only want tolerance and equality for themselves. The rest of us are bigots, racists, xenophobes, and homophobes. MAGA!

  • Kat

With Islamic terrorists in every state, I’m not sure now is a good time to be advertising that you’re LGBT or anything else, but go ahead, have a good time.

    • Givemeabreak

What does that have to do with anything? I guess you should stay off the road tomorrow because 1.3 million people died in car accidents last year. Are you scared of your own shadow too? Haven’t seen too many Islamic terrorists go after the gays.

      • Pinocchio

Don’t even have to go as extreme as terrorism. Just do a search on ‘Muslims throw gays from buildings’ and you’ll have hours of reading pleasure. How’s that for tolerance, equality, and a hate crime?

  • Lance

If they are no different from anyone else why is it necessary to have a “coming out party”? I dont recall making an announcement that im straight. Just shut up already. You got rights now keep your sexuality to yourself!

    • Pinocchio

Truth be told they have more ‘rights’, privileges, and protections than the average normal hetero citizen. The only people holding them back are themselves.

  • Karen Uren

There will always be intolerance & what people need to do is learn how to handle it. There are more counseling centers for any type of issues & problems than ever ! I’m 66 yrs old & I have dealt with many things in life- please get help if needed & surround yourselves with supportive people too- that fella in Wyoming county shooting incident should have turned to help – not by destroying other people’s lives because he was so messed up mentally – two wrongs don’t make it right ! It’s called equality for EVERYONE – not just one type or another –

  • Carl panzram

I guess PT Barnum circus chose the right time to close the show down.

This circus is way more competitive.

  • Writer Girl

I have nothing against this community, but I’m tired of them talking about their sexuality all the time. Who does that? I also don’t see what rights they are denied. Bullying will still happen by those who don’t want to be tolerant and it happens to more than gays. Everyone struggled with something growing up, but we didn’t hold rallies about it.

    • What's in a chromosome?

I think the Duck Dynasty guy said it best: ” It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

  • Lloyd Schmucatelli

What exactly is the Q anyway?

In the real world of us rational thinkers, all of the 1st 4 letters fall under the umbrella of Q (queer) anyway.

Assuming that’s what the Q stands for. Unless it stands for Quacks?

Quohogs? Large clams? Hmmm, may fall under L.

I’m so confused, I’m surprised I’m not there as well!

    Maybe queens or quickies?

    If it’s quickies, I’M IN!

I think it could just boil down to Q rallies.

    • .....tuvwxyz?

Maybe the Q is actually an upsidedown cursive O with the stem on top. I’m assuming the “O” would stand for “ovarian confusion.” That’s the only guess I have. I hope this may help.

  • Tjkat

Enough already!! You all have your rights. You were shoved down our throats!! You are out there because a person wanted fame and would do anything to get it!! How dare you have your parade after innocent working people murder at their jobs. You are the reason for this!! You all are plastered all over the news, he used you! Even if he was having a conflict, shoot yourself not the innocent victims!! What a line of bull!! He was just a killer plain and simple. How dare you all have you march after such a terrible thing has happened!!

  • Jeff Woehrle

I’m offended when expecting parents announce the gender of their unborn child.

Isn’t that taking away the child’s right to ‘choose’ its gender?

    • What's in a chromosome?

Snowflake parents are now announcing their children with white balloons with a letter ‘P’ or ‘V’ on them to let people know what equipment they are supplied with. The gender declaration is now taking the place of the 7th birthday party.

The LGBT folks have got to be the most hypocritical group on the face of the planet. They are all for tolerance and acceptance as long as it agrees with their ideology. Christians are constantly being persecuted for their views. The whole baker debate is a perfect example of that. A baker who owns a private business and chooses not to make a cake for a gay couples wedding, because he believes in traditional marriage, has every single right to his beliefs. He is not telling gay people they can’t come into his store or purchase from his store, but he won’t endorse something he doesn’t find morally correct. Then the tolerance issue. Gays then sue and attempt to put that owner out of business, because they wouldn’t make them a cake. Instead of going to another baker who would probably make them one, they want to sue and force a company out of business and ruin their livelihoods. The double standards from the left never cease to amaze me.

  • El Ma

Oh, my gosh. Who has more “rights,” these days, than every Special Snowflake that screams, “TRIGGERED!!!!!” when someone speaks truthfully to them, or their fragile feelings are hurt, or someone won’t acknowledge that they identify themselves as a Boeing 737? Even colleges are forcing professors to forego education and adhere to addressing shim, sher, zim, zer, fim, fer, or whatever “gender” these people are demanding.

In 40 years (if Humanity makes it another 40 years!), these people will be dotards sitting on the steps of homeless shelters because they had blinders over their eyes and were unable to see the Big Picture Of Life.

No. Whatever you are, that’s what you are, and you don’t deserve anything more than the next person that’s normal.

For everyone that might be interested, there’s going to be a Heterosexual Right Protest in Harrisburg on July 4th in front of the Assembly building. Be there at 10am with your gender (male, or female) clearly marked on your shirts, and men will hold up BLUE signs that read, “I’m NOT gay, and I’m OkAY!” Females will carry pink signs that read, “I’m a girl, and I’m glad of it!”

  • So ridiculous!

They have more rights than heterosexuals and Christians. They look like a bunch of fools. I certainly do not support any LGBT anything. Don’t care who does or does not like it. I myself am a spirit filled Christian and in the sight of God, it is an abomination to Him.

      • El Ma

“They” have the “right” to scream, whine, complain, and accuse anyone that hurts their feelings by not “checking their pronouns privileges.” They have the “right” to force the other 85% of the population to accept and agree with whatever they think that they are, today.

This has gotten so far out of hand that the pendulum is going to swing the other way and it’s going to be ugly. Humanity cannot sustain this kind of cultural meltdown – no boundaries, no reasonable expectations, no ethics, no morals, and no consequences for stupid behaviors. Anything goes. THOSE are the rights that these people are currently enjoying.

      • El Ma

MCCRACKEN, I don’t run around screaming, “TRIGGERED!” whenever someone says something that hurts my feelings. I don’t hold up signs to announce my sexual “identity.” I do not call another person a bigot or “racist” if they disagree with my system of beliefs. These people are utterly and, in all ways, devoid of any human dignity. Staging “slut walks,” and “Gay Pride” events……….when’s the last time that anyone’s ever been to a “Normal Pride” event?

I know all about my rights, and Freedom of Speech is now labeled as “hate speech” if one of the LGBTUVWXYZ community becomes offended because I don’t agree with their choices and actions.

      • So ridiculous!

El Ma, if any Christian trys to stand up for what they believe and does not agree with the LGBT they are called haters ,racist, bigots, etc. I myself know what the bible says. In Leviticus, God clearly states, man shall not lie with mankind as with a woman when he says mankind that goes for women too. So I believe what He says. Does that make me a hater, racist, bigot too just because I state what my beliefs are? In Deuteronomy he also states a man shall not wear what pertainith to a woman and a woman shall not put on a mans clothes. The old testament still pertains to life today. A lot of people think it is obsolete, but it is not. I love the old testament.
