CLIFFORD TOWNSHIP --  One person is dead and two firefighters were injured in an early morning fire at an apartment building in Susquehanna County.

It happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday on the second floor of the apartment building on Route 247 in Clifford Township.

A neighbor tells us there are five units in this two-story apartment building, and he believes one person lives in each unit. He also believes the fire was contained mostly to the one apartment.

The assistant fire chief of Clifford Township says crews were concentrated on that one unit where the fire started and that is where they found the victim.

The victim of this fire is identified as Daniel Miller, age 65. The autopsy revealed Miller died of smoke inhalation from the fire at his apartment.

All other occupants made it out safely.

"A gentleman upstairs came down, started banging on my door, he said he saw smoke. I looked out and called 911. We basically got everyone else out of the building. By that time, the first responders were already here," said resident Thomas Feddock.

Feddock says he was very impressed with how quickly crews responded. There were several engine companies here from surrounding counties.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate.
