LEHIGHTON -- A suspicious death investigation is underway in Carbon County.

Authorities say a 44-year-old man was found dead inside a home in Lehighton.

Authorities say there is no threat to the community but the investigation continues.

State police units and the county coroner have been outside the home on Coal Street all day long.

Karissa Holland from Lehighton stopped at her grandfather's house on Coal Street after she received a nervous phone call from him. When she walked to his house, she saw why.

The coroner, state police vehicles, and a forensic unit were all parked outside a house next door.

A 44-year-old man was found dead inside and troopers call his death suspicious.

"It just seems like a lot has been happening around here lately. It's very concerning," said Holland.

People who live on Coal Street say they noticed police vehicles at this home as early as 7 a.m. That's when barriers were put up to block traffic.

Authorities stayed outside the home for most of the morning. By midafternoon, a judge in Carbon County signed a search warrant for the property.

That's when troopers and members of the forensic unit began moving in and out of the house.

Holland says her grandparents didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

"The detective asked them if they heard anything and they said no. They did say they saw more cars than usual at the house last night, maybe around 6 p.m. but yeah, that's all I know."

Janice Gieniec lives just two houses down from the police activity. She says what upset her the most, was the lack of information police were giving out.

"We were on our way to Allentown and I said to my husband I don't know if we should have left the house. It felt kind of funny and everything is hush-hush," said Gieniec.
