UNION TOWNSHIP -- Fire heavily damaged a repair shop in Snyder County Wednesday afternoon.

It started around 12:30 p.m. at Silver Creek Repair on Buttercup Road in Union Township, near Freeburg.

The owner believes the fire was started by diesel fuel behind the building but an official cause has not been determined.

This is the second time in eight years the place has been hit by fire.

Just minutes before firefighters rushed to battle this fire near Freeburg, they had just finished putting out hot spots at a house fire near Middleburg.

Not much is left of the Stock family's house off Route 104 near Middleburg. A small part of the house is still standing after the house was destroyed by fire Tuesday night.

There were four people living there and everyone was home at the time, but Middleburg Volunteer Fire Department's fire chief says they all made it out safely.

The house was built in 1984 by the current owners, Jerry and Connie Stock.

A state police fire marshal said there is too much damage to figure out what started the fire, but he believes the fire started in the garage. The house is a total loss.

The fire chief says it was windy Tuesday night, and that played a part in the smoke and flames spreading so fast.

"I was first on scene. When I came out, the road here it was already a lot of smoke and heavy fire. When I got here it was through the entire house," said Chief Butch Hackenberg, Middleburg Volunteer Fire Department.

The couple who owns the garage tells Newswatch 16 they plan to rebuild their business.  As for the family who lost their house near Middleburg, the family says they have a tight-knit community and are getting help from friends and family.
