“They are making it so that a family doctor will not help with mental health meds so now people are just screwed.” That is why there are people called “PSYCHIATRIST” who specialize in the treatment of mental health diagnoses and can prescribe medications to treat a person’s symptoms. Family doctor’s are not prescribing mental health meds not because they can’t but because it allows people to “double dip” and be at risk. I work at a facility where people are provided the opportunity to see a psychiatrist and will do so; however, they will then go to their family doctor and be prescribed medication for the same symptoms. They’re not in the same network and neither doctor is aware that they are prescribing meds for and treating the same condition. It can be harmful to the patient. Consider it a favor that family docs are not prescribing psych meds as it’s for the protection of the person. There are specialists out there for a reason. Instead of complaining, go see them!
