HAZLETON -- It was a special day in Hazleton to honor the manager of the world champion Chicago Cubs.

There were lots of proclamations and awards for Joe Maddon as part of Joe Maddon Day.

The celebration was held at the Hazleton One Community Center which was founded by Maddon who grew up in Hazleton.

After all the World Series excitement, Maddon chose a low key celebration in his hometown.

We asked him what he learned growing up in Hazleton that helped him become a champ.

"I think that this town brings a toughness and an accountability, and that is what it really comes down to," Maddon said.

Many of Maddon's family members were on hand.

His mom tells Newswatch 16 she is very proud to see her son's achievements celebrated in Hazleton.
