MUNCY TOWNSHIP -- First comes Black Friday, then Small Business Saturday, then Cyber Monday. And now? It's Green Monday. But what is Green Monday? It was started by eBay and has to do with online shopping.

The snowstorm covered roadways, delayed schools, and made for a good day to stay inside. But not for everyone. Liz Reiff of Milton spent part of her day at Target in Muncy Township.

"Trying to get some Christmas shopping done," Reiff said.

Reiff was not alone. A lot of people got their Christmas shopping done at Target.

"Our traffic's been steady all day, just as it was the crazy weekend. Even with the weather. With the weather, yeah," Melisa Flick said.

But why was the store so busy? It's Green Monday, a day set aside for online shopping. Green Monday is similar to Cyber Monday.

It was started by eBay to describe its best sales day in December. But no one Newswatch 16 spoke with was familiar with Green Monday.

"No, not at all," Judith Shickel said.

"In nine years of retail, I didn't know what Green Monday was until I looked it up today so it has not affected us at all," Flick said.

Even though the store itself is busy, Target.com has some Green Monday specials that are separate from the store that are only good for this day.

"Some of the electronics are half off. Domestics and a lot of our clothing is 40 to 50 percent off, so it's good deals," Flick said.

The people Newswatch 16 spoke with say even if they knew about Green Monday, they would probably still be shopping in person.

"I get to see the items, the sizes, check things out like that. It's not as frustrating either as online," Shickel said.

"Sometimes it's just the fun, the atmosphere to go out to and do in-store shopping," Reiff said.

Even though it started on eBay, most of the major retailers now participate in Green Monday.
