ORWIGSBURG -- With a little assistance, residents at Seton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Orwigsburg were hard at work.

With markers, stickers, glue, and glitter in hand, they made Christmas cards for family members and friends.

Seton Manor wants to get these folks out of their comfort zone and try new things.

"It helps with self-esteem. It helps with reducing depression. It really gets their energy levels up," Michael Fox, Director of Activities for Seton Manor.

Seton Manor partnered with the Arts Barn to have a holiday workshop for the residents. Students from Blue Mountain Academy also helped with Christmas crafts, from drawing Santa to making greeting cards.

"In general, I think the holidays are very difficult for really anybody. But as we age and get older, its gets harder to make friends because we feel like we can't," said Fox.

Residents were able to socialize with friends while making unique designs for the holidays.

"I have been here about a year. I didn't know anyone, but I made a lot of friends that year, and I enjoy being with them," said Mary Cuchara, resident at Seton Manor.

For volunteers at Seton Manor, it's all about making connections with the residents.

"I stop to think I'm not going to take anything from this life like when I die. I'm not going to take money. I'm not going to take any certificate," said Lorena Alves, Blue Mountain Academy student.

Once finished, the holiday cards will be given to family, other residents at Seton Manor, and even some staff members.
