SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A hot cocoa stand in Lackawanna County isn't your average 6 year old's business idea.
Matthew McDonnell has been battling kidney cancer for the past three years, and he was chosen to sponsor the Alex's Lemonade Stand through the NET Federal Credit Union.
Matthew relapsed for the fourth time and wasn't able to host his own lemonade stand in the summer. Instead, he came up with the idea to put a wintertime twist on it and held a cocoa stand at the South Abington Park on Saturday.
"Matthew has the most compassionate, loving heart I know, and so this is his way of giving back, just showing his love and shining his light for God," said Linda McDonnell, Matthew's mother.
All the proceeds from Matthew's stand will go to Alex's Lemonade Stand and to another pediatric cancer research organization.
