THROOP -- A martial arts student who is confined to a wheelchair has reached the highest level of training.

Paul Guzzi, 29, has cerebral palsy, but that didn't stop him from attaining a first-degree black belt.

Guzzi studies karate at Red Dragon Karate in Clifford and was awarded his black belt during a ceremony at Mid Valley High School in Throop on Sunday.

In order to reach black belt status, his training was tailored to using hand motions and Guzzi's wheelchair.

Guzzi is the first differently abled person to get a black belt from his martial arts school.
