POTTSVILLE -- A woman and her four children escaped their burning home from a second-floor window in Schuylkill County.
Firefighters tell us the family woke up to smoke alarms going off in their home along West Arch Street in Pottsville around 2:40 p.m. Monday.
They couldn't get downstairs, so they had to climb out a window and onto a roof.
A neighbor in an adjacent row home let them climb through the window to safety.
The fire chief says a dog in a cage on the first floor died in the fire.
Officials believe the fire started in the basement, but have not yet determined the cause.
