SUNBURY -- People walked into Special Occasions on South 2nd Street in Sunbury throughout the day, dropping off donations for the annual free Thanksgiving dinner.
Rhonda Fisher of Beaver Springs has been hosting the dinner for 18 years.
"We were blessed to serve almost 800 meals last year," Fisher said.
It was standing room only at last year's dinner and Rhonda expects it to be the same way this year. And she has a lot of food.
"About 40 turkeys and 40 hams," Fisher said.
It takes an army to put together a dinner this big. Rhonda has plenty of helpers. Volunteers are cooking the turkeys and hams at their houses and bringing them to Special Occasions, ready to eat.
And it isn't just a free dinner. There is a toy, blanket, and clothing giveaway.
Some people in Sunbury say they depend on this event each year.
"I think it's nice because the people who don't have nothing have something to go for," Richard Rebuck said.
"You get to meet different people and the food is very good," Bonnie Rebuck said.
"It's nice. It's beautiful in there, helping people out in there," Bob Phovic said.
Rhonda has a lot of people to help her serve on Thanksgiving, but what she needs is people to help her set up the day before.
"Setting up the tables and getting situated. Tomorrow the donations will be coming in of clothing and blankets and the food and desserts," Fisher said.

The free Thanksgiving events start Thursday at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast, with the traditional turkey dinner starting at noon.
