SCOTT TOWNSHIP -- The Columbia County district attorney has ruled that police were justified in shooting a man over the weekend. The victim, Jonathan Young, died Wednesday at the hospital.

Officers went to the home on Jonathan Young Sunday to serve a mental health warrant.

Investigators say young barricaded himself inside the home for an hour before police broke in.

One officer used a Taser on young, but it did not stop him.

According to the D.A., Young came at an officer with a hatchet and a baseball bat.

Young was shot twice and was hospitalized in critical condition. State police said he died Wednesday at the hospital.

Doesn’t the DA always say the police shooting is justified? Why do they bother asking, as they share the same legal interests? If it were up to a jury to decide, LE would think more deeply before employing lethal force.

  • Hello???

Are the police just supposed to let these guys kill them before they shoot to protect themselves??At what point is attacking with axes and bats ok?? Geez, you people are in fantasy land.

  • Common Sense

So, now the “DA” is the Judge, Jury and Executioner? They shoot a MAN in his own home……but, hey, thanks A-OK……………Double standards……..We get one set of laws and they run around kicking in doors and shooting people??????

  • Why am I not surprised?

    There ya go, folks.

If you’re worried about the mental stability of a family member, all you have to do is call the cops. They’ll break in, shoot your loved one, and face no consequences. Problem solved.

    • duh

There ya go, folks. If you want to get shot, all you have to do is get high on whatever drugs you have, attack the police with deadly weapons, and don’t stop after getting tazed. Problem solved. Hey, did you hear about my next door neighbor? He’s not whacked out on drugs and doesn’t attack people with deadly weapons – and he didn’t get shot. Imagine that. Think it’s easy and you can do better – put the uniform on. Coward.

      • Why am I not surprised?

He wasn’t high. He was diagnosed as schizophrenic. The guy had a history of mental illness and cops knew it when they barged into his home and shot him.

        Try again, moron.

so put yourself in the situation? You have a mentally ill person and your standing in front of them. They come at you with a weapon. You’re telling me your not going to use the weapon you have? I guess your reasoning is “just talking” that’ll work just great!

Loved one or not, attacking anyone with hatchets and baseball bats for no good reason makes one a criminal now. People like this shouldn’t be out and about. Who wants that kinda crazy in their home or community??
