WNEP-TV's Feed a Friend program is still going strong looking to make a difference in people's lives this Thanksgiving season.

From the checkout line at Wegmans in Dickson City to the United Neighborhood Centers location on West Olive Street in Scranton, the donations are getting to where they're meant to go.

"Last year we had 1,600 families we served. This year we're on track to serve more families. The need is always increasing every year," said Jessica Wallo with United Neighborhood Centers.

Patricia Savage is thankful for the help. She tells us the extra food from this program is how her family makes it this time of year.

"It means a lot. It means a lot more than you can imagine. Sometimes you don’t have it to eat," said Savage.

There’s a huge need for food, having healthy food and having fixings so that the family can cook and serve their own food so they can create memories with their children and family members some of us take for granted.

These barrels full of food were dropped off at UNC's Community Services Center recently and there's more on the way from drop-off locations all over our area.

In Lackawanna County, families in need still have time to register. Friday is the deadline. A few days later, Tuesday, is the big distribution at Saint Mary's Center in Scranton.

"It’s a generous community. The need is great. People don’t realize how often people will go without food," said one woman.
