PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- It was a night to celebrate a milestone in Luzerne County as Pennsylvania's very first casino, Mohegan Sun Pocono had its 10th anniversary.

And to show appreciation to the men and women who made its first decade a success, a party was thrown inside the ballroom at the casino’s convention center in honor of the 1,700 team members who work there.

“Oh, it's amazing. This company has been incredible ever since I've been involved with them,” said Jim Andurskiewcz, a slot director.

Many have been here since the casino opened in 2006, including Donna Javick who is part of the custodial staff.

“It feels great. You know that we're appreciated and they're giving something back to us,” said Javick.

“This is great,” said Mindy Stevens, a Players Club manager. “It's such a wonderful recognition for us that have been here for so long. It's kind of a little boost and a thank you for everything we do day in and day out.”

“We have so many people who have worked with us, grown this place, grown with us as we've grown, so it's so important to honor all those people who started this 10 years ago,” said Maria Zangardi, the Vice President of Administration.

Ten years ago, the excitement was evident at the casino's grand opening on November 14, 2006 as folks flooded into the casino for a chance a lady luck.

At that time the brand-new facility had 1,100 slot machines. Over the years, the casino has expanded to 2,300 slot machines and the addition of more than 90 table games and the hotel and convention center.

“It's great to see that it's just continuing to grow and expand and they keep investing in us, and it's showing that they really care for this area and care for the employees,” said Stevens.

“A great celebration to give to the team and we're just happy to have these first 10 years and looking forward to the next 10,” said Lynn Segars, the Vice President of Casino Operations.

The party lasted from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., giving employees who were working plenty of time to pop in to grab a bite and mingle.
