KEYSTONE COLLEGE -- Keystone College has been educating veterans since the Civil war. On Friday, the school showed off its improvements to the school's veteran's center, which opened exactly one year ago -- Veterans Day 2015.

On a day when most Americans honor veterans, Keystone College showed off a building just for them.

With a kitchen, living room, and study area, the Veterans Center is a place for vets during their down time on campus.

"Going from a military unit to a classroom can sometimes be stressful," said Patrick McKenna of Mehoopany.

McKenna served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Just having somebody who understands what you've been going through, and what you've done it means the world," he said.

Brittany Miller is studying to be a social worker. She attends Keystone on a scholarship given to widows of veterans. Her late husband served in the Air Force, and she feels at home with the vets here.

"I was welcomed with open arms," Miller said. "I don't necessarily share the same experience as most of the veterans here, but they understand me in a way my other peers do not."

McKenna spends time in the study room as he works toward a career in cyber security.

"Patriotism kind of drives everything I do, whether it's serving our country in the military, or in the civilian world," McKenna added.

Nearly one in four students at Keystone have served in the military, and many at the school believe veterans should be honored, and not just on November 11.
