STROUDSBURG -- President-elect Donald Trump is calling on the nation to unite, but there is division, especially, it seems, on social media.

"Everybody is just exploding with hatred and anger and it's just getting out of control. It's insane. I have just turned it off. I'm not opening it up for, I don't know, a week, two weeks, who knows?” said Tim Audett of Blakeslee.

From Facebook to Twitter, people are posting sometimes long political rants, some laced with profanity.

Republican, Democrat, or third party, everyone is getting involved.

On the WNEP Facebook page, for example, people are calling one another "racists," "idiots," and "sore losers."

"More derisive, separatist, everybody hates each other, blah, blah, blah, blah."

Rendi Young owns The Altar, a tattoo shop in Stroudsburg. He says what he's seeing on social media is ridiculous.

"A lot of people unfriending each other, as if that were important,” he said.

Some others Newswatch 16 spoke with say people posting on social media need to think about the message they are sending about themselves.

"It's not about who is president, it's about who am I? That is what matters to me. Who am I? I want to be good. I want to be kind,” said Debra Elmire of Reeders.

Some people say the social media explosion has affected their relationships with other people.

"I've lost a lot of respect for some people. I thought they were a lot better than that. You know things can be disappointing at times, but it doesn't mean you turn your backs on everybody. This is the time when everyone should stick together and be a team as a country,” said Lisandra Estevez of Blakeslee.
