SCRANTON -- November is National Lung Cancer Awareness month. Friday there was a push in Scranton to spread the word.

1600 white flags were placed on the lawn on Courthouse Square for a campaign called 'Shine a Light on Lung Cancer.'

The flags represent the 160-thousand people across the country who will die this year from the disease.

The display was created by the Lung Cancer Alliance. One of its members is a lung cancer survivor herself.

"The problem with that is a lot of people think that if you didn`t smoke or if you already quit smoking, you can`t get lung cancer and really the biggest risk factor for getting lung cancer is if you have lungs," said Karen Arscott.

The display will be up throughout the month of November.
