WILKES-BARRE -- A former Wilkes-Barre police officer has admitted to sexually assaulting a young girl.
Gerald Cookus was arrested in April. Police said he assaulted an 8-year-old girl in his home on Mayock Street in Wilkes-Barre.
Cookus had been working for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District as a security greeter who checked children as they went through a metal detector.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in February. He faces a maximum sentence of 7 years behind bars.
