UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON -- Students at the University of Scranton got a break from classes to cuddle with some service dogs in training.

The "Pet a Puppy" event is a fundraiser for "America's Vet Dogs," a charity in New York State that trains and provides service dogs to injured veterans.

Organizers say it not only provides some stress relief for students, it also benefits the dogs.

"It's good for them to know how to interact with different people when they are training, so when they have a vet, the know not to go to the person but have the person come to them. They're training on socializing with other people besides their guide trainer," said Megan Mccallister, a student at the University of Scranton.

Occupational therapy students at the University of Scranton hope to raise $6,000 in 2016 for America's Vet Dogs.
