GAMBLE TOWNSHIP -- The leak of thousands of gallons of gasoline into a creek last week was caused by a bridge that washed out and damaged a pipeline, according to officials with Sunoco Logistics.

The pipeline was damaged Friday when heavy rains led to flash flooding in Lycoming County.

The pipeline runs under Wallis Run where it meets Loyalsock Creek in Gamble Township. It carries gasoline from the Reading area to Williamsport and New York State.

Sunoco Logistics plans to replace about 500 feet of pipeline under the creek. No timetable for the replacement has been set.
