It's creative clay for a cause! A number of area artists and students are teaming up this week for the same project in Luzerne County.

It all ties into something known as "Empty Bowls 2016." It's a part of a grassroots campaign. Over the past year, artists and students in our area have made ceramic bowls out of pottery for this charity event.

The project in the Wyoming Valley brings together Wilkes University, King's College, Luzerne County Community College and Wyoming Seminary. The schools teamed up to make the ceramic bowls which are sold at a weekend event that's also filled with soup, bread, and beverages. The money raised helps area soup kitchens and food banks.

Newswatch 16's Ryan Leckey got a preview of the Empty Bowls Project Friday morning. In exchange for a donation at Sunday's event, organizers say "people are encouraged to keep their empty ceramic bowls as a reminder of all of the empty bowls in the community. "
