LACKAWANNA COUNTY---Halloween is just around the corner and the spooky stuff is out in stores.

At Spirit Halloween in Dickson City, there are plenty of scary masks and more, including of course scary clowns.

“I know people will mention, ‘Oh, I can’t believe you guys sell clown costumes,’ and some people will say, ‘I didn’t know anything was even going on,’ said Jonathan Doty, the Spirit Halloween manager.

In our area and across the country, there have been thousands of reports of people in scary clown masks causing problems near schools, businesses and parks.

“I think a lot of it is a bunch of people have nothing to do with their time. I’ve heard stuff with people out there with guns, knives and stuff chasing people. It’s pretty dangerous,” said one shopper.

Target has just pulled scary clown masks off the shelves, both in stores and online.

“I support it. I think it’s a good idea. I don’t think anybody should be helping to have this stuff out there for people to do it,” said Shawn O’Connor, who was shopping in Dickson City.

The managers at Spirit Halloween in Dickson City say there has not been a spike in the sales of clown costumes or masks.

Some people Newswatch 16 spoke with said they think the clown terror has put a damper on things this Halloween.

“I mean, I can’t be mad at Target. Something has to happen. By Target doing that, they’re taking the first step, I guess. I haven’t heard of any other stores stepping up to this situation,” said Kyree Toomey, another customer in Dickson City.
