BLOOMSBURG -- A rally was held Tuesday afternoon outside of the Student Services Center at Bloomsburg University. It was the last attempt to get students registered to vote.
On this National Voter Registration Day, dozens of students stopped at the event.
Some students were there to change their voter registration address. Other students are preparing to vote for the first time.
"I'm looking for change in the community, change in school, change in politics," Tyshawn Walker said.
November's election will be the first time most college students are voting in the presidential election, which is why many of them are coming out to register to vote.
Tim Pelton is an employee at Bloomsburg University. He helped organize the event on Tuesday. Pelton is trying his best to get more students interested in the election.
"One of the things that's turning off this age group is the rancor that has become part of politics. So we're trying to convince people that they can change that by electing the people that don't give into that urge as politicians," Pelton said.
"Since the primary parties have established their candidates, I've just been kind of back and forth. I know it sounds very cliche to say, but I almost feel like I'm trying to pick the lesser of two evils," student Krista Bower said.
Kimberlin Chilenski stopped at the event to change her voter registration address from her hometown to Columbia County.
"I know what I don't want. I know who I don't want. I'm not sure if I want to go with the other person or an independent yet," Chilenski said.
So far more than 600 students have registered to vote on campus for the November election.
Students are hoping for a change.
"I'm trying to change the world. You got to start with voting, changing the congressmen everything like that. Then you start seeing change in the community and society," student Jahad Roberts said.
The deadline to register to vote in Pennsylvania is October 11.
