SUNBURY -- A body has been found near the Susquehanna River in Northumberland County.

A kayaker spotted the body near the Edison Bridge, which crosses the river near Sunbury, according to state police.

State police are looking for surveillance video overlooking the Edison Bridge. Police have focused much of their investigation on top of the bridge overlooking the Susquehanna River.

State police are trying to figure out how the man died in Northumberland County. Someone was kayaking along the north branch of the Susquehanna River Wednesday morning when they noticed the dead body and a bicycle close by.

After that person called police, authorities were at the scene on Packer Island which is between Sunbury and Northumberland.

Around 11 a.m., the Northumberland County deputy coroner confirmed the man was dead. His name has not been released.

A state police forensic unit from Montoursville spent most of the day at the scene, trying to figure out what happened.

A rescue boat went out on the river to help look for evidence. Authorities focused much of their time at the top of the Edison Bridge trying to piece together evidence.

An autopsy on the man is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday in Allentown.
