SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- The 2016 Little League World Series is officially underway in Lycoming County. There were plenty of smiles on the faces of players from all over the world as they took part in this year's opening ceremonies at Volunteer Stadium.
Sixteen teams, one goal: to win the Little League World Series and be known around the world as the best of the best. Before the teams got down to business, they took part in the opening ceremony. All 16 teams marched out with their country or state flags.
Many of the kids' families and friends were in the stands cheering them on as well as people from all over our area who went to watch some baseball.
The first game of the Little League World Series was at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. The schedule for the games has the complex in South Williamsport busy through the Championship game on Sunday, August 28. You can catch some of the action on WNEP-TV including the championship games.
