PITTSTON -- It's been said that northeastern Pennsylvania grows some of the best-quality tomatoes in the country, especially near the Susquehanna River, and every year the city of Pittston celebrates the tomato.

The annual Pittston Tomato Festival got underway Thursday afternoon.

The festival in downtown Pittston runs through Sunday and features all kinds of food and live entertainment.

On Saturday, events include a 5K walk/run, a parade, and the popular tomato fight.

So sad that in this day and age where people are homeless and eat out of garbage cans…where kids go to school and go to bed hungry…that this idiotic tomato fight goes on…what a sinful, sinful waste of food.
