HARRISBURG — There are now more options for where you can buy bottles of wine in Pennsylvania. The state Liquor Control Board issued permits this week to 81 grocery stores and restaurants, allowing them to sell wine immediately.

Up until now, wine was only available in state-owned liquor stores, but a new law that went into effect last week expands that.  Monday, the state issued its first round of permits to 81 businesses out of the 174 that applied.  There are still wine permit applications under review.

The state also approved permits that will allow wine to be directly shipped to homes in Pennsylvania. That was previously forbidden.  Pennsylvania residents can now get up to 36 cases of wine shipped to them by a wine producer licensed by the PLCB.

These changes are part of Act 39.  It also added Sunday hours to many state-owned liquor stores across the state.

Among the 81 grocery stores and restaurants issued permits to sell wine starting this week, these are in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania:

Centre County:

Giant Food Stores,  State College

Columbia County:

Dawg Beer Deli, Berwick

Lackawanna County:

Summit Beer, South Abington Township

Luzerne County:

Monroe County:
