UPDATE: A road reopened Tuesday morning after an ammonia leak in Luzerne County.

New Commerce Boulevard was closed around 9 p.m. Monday night after five people had to be taken to the hospital after an ammonia leak at Nardone Brothers Baking in the Hanover Industrial Park.

New Commerce Boulevard reopened around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Those people from the factory that makes pizza are expected to be okay. About 60 people were inside the building near Wilkes-Barre at the time.

The EMA director says the ammonia was leaking from a broken refrigerator valve.

Officials haven't said if the leak will affect the business in Luzerne County Tuesday.

HANOVER -- Crews are currently on scene of an ammonia leak in Luzerne County.

At least five employees working inside Nardone Brothers Baking Company in the Hanover Industrial Park were rushed to the hospital because of an ammonia leak.

There was plenty of activity on the scene along New Commerce Boulevard which remains shut down.

The Hanover Township Emergency Management director told us employees at Nardone Brothers Pizza noticed the smell of ammonia in the building around 9 p.m. on Monday night.

Fire crews were called, and around 60 people were evacuated out of the building

The EMA director said the ammonia was leaking from a broken valve on a refrigerator, and that the valve has since been shut off.

According to the director, the five people taken to the hospital were taken as a precaution.

Crews are waiting for DEP to arrive to do an air quality test before they  will reopen New Commerce Boulevard, but EMA director says no one is in any danger.
