WAYNE COUNTY -- It's a sign of summer in Wayne County, the county fair. The event near Honesdale attracts people from all over.

Gene Shayka of Tompkinsville and his wife, Ava, have been coming for years.

"Well, the food is good and everything. When the kids were young we would bring them and they would ride the rides," said Gene Shayka.

"Oh, I love it. I have been coming here forever, like since I was a kid," said Ava Shayka.

Mason Clark from Hawley and her friend took a break from setting up their stand to walk around the grounds. Excited for another year at the fair, they think it's more than just fun and games.

"I think it's a really, really nice thing that Hawley and Honesdale have something they can do together," said Mason Clark.

"You really get to feel a sense of camaraderie," said Devyn Cunningham of Tafton.

While there is plenty for both young and old to do at the Wayne County Fair, if you ask people what their favorite part is, they will tell you it's the rides.

"My husband is big on the games, so I really think it's going to be games and rides," said Samantha Cole from western New York.

Some first-timers were visiting from New York and New Jersey. They heard this fair was the place to be during the summer and came to check it out.

"We were visiting Lake Huntington and decided to bring the kids to the fair," said Holly Ernst of New Jersey.

"I think it's wonderful. It looks like a lot of fun for the kids my son is four and my daughter is two so there is a lot for them to do here," said Cole.

Directors at the fair tell us in addition to some new kiddie rides, a rodeo will come back to the grounds for the first time in a few years next Friday.

The Wayne County Fair will continue through August 13.
